Lor Mai Kai Recipe


1½ C of Glutinous Rice/Sweet Rice

1½ C of water or a little less

5 cloves of garlic (minced)

4-5 dried Shitake Mushrooms (soaked and thinly sliced)

2 Tbsp of dried shrimp (soaked)

2 Tbsp Soy Sauce

1 Tbsp Fish Sauce

Chinese Barbecued Pork (optional) - cut into small pieces

2 Tbsp of Vegetable oil/Peanut oil

Fried Shallots


In a big pot, cook the glutinous rice with water until they are cooked through

In a separate pan, heat some oil and saute the garlic and dried shrimp until fragrant. Add in the cooked glutinous rice. Add in Soy sauce and fish sauce. Adjust the seasoning to your liking. Mix all the ingredients well and turn off the heat. Add in the small pieces of Chinese Barbecued Pork

Prepare a steamer and steam No.2 for about 30 minutes

Just before serving, garnish with fried shallots so that they won't be soggy
